Excerpts from Mike's Letter Home:

10/21/2002

Dear Parents,

Once again it is time for the weekly letter. It was great to hear all about dad's organ convention adventure. Maybe some day I will be able to go to one with you.

Mom asked about zone conference. It was held in Tulsa, since we are in the Tulsa zone (and stake for that matter). I would estimate that there was about 25 - 30 missionaries there. The speakers were the assistant to the president and President Peterson. The main topic was faith preceding miracles. Also, we earned the title of 'Most Improved District' in the mission.

This week was interesting in the fact that we did not teach a single 1st discussion. What was more amazing was that this was a district wide thing. Not that we slacked off or anything, but it happened. We have committed ourselves to some extra tracting in the week to come. Also surprising is that I found out that there are a lot of HAM radio operators in the ward. However, it will still be a little while before I will be using mine again!

Some little items now. I got my tie stays. Thank you! Hopefully these plastic ones last longer. We shall see. The weather has gotten much colder and more rainy.  Winter is just around the corner. So, after I tell you where I will be transferred to.. please send me my black gloves.

It may be of interest to you that I have improved my piano playing some. Something I didn't expect.

Also, mom asked about my certification. Yes, I have completed level 1 (of 3) certification. I still have quite a bit more memorization to do (about 3 more discussions.)

I received dad's letter about the McKinley's mission report. Yes, I am very thankful for the instruction I received at BYU. However, as each day passes out here, I wish I would have paid more attention in religion class. Though temple marriages and missions are important... Oklahoma is a testimony that scholarship does matter. Too many people don't receive an education simply because it is not expected of them.

Glad to hear that 'Singles Ward' was interesting. Make sure you keep it, so I can see it again in 21 months. Also, be sure to get 'The Other Side of Heaven' for me when it comes out. It was amusing to hear dad's thoughts on 'Singles Ward'.

Anyways, I must go. Sorry there will be more spiritually uplifting things in letters to come. Remember to share my love with Grandma. I wish you all the best!

Love,
Elder Mike Robinson
