Excerpts from Mike's Letter Home:

12/02/2002

Dear Parents,

I hope that you have had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are ready for December (because it is already here). Our Thanksgiving was quite eventful, we had 3 meal appointments. I had originally thought, "no problem, I am usually hungry again by the time we got home from Aunt Kathy's & Uncle Mark's." However, I forgot that there was some time spent sitting and talking, as well as the drive home. Needless to say, I was stuffed and even skipped breakfast the next morning. However, we wanted to go to all 3 because one was with a less actively family, one was with a non-member (who we work with at the Salvation Army) and her family, and lastly with the Mason family (committed to baptism on Dec. 21st). So, you didn't have to worry about your son starving.

I am glad to hear that grandma is doing better. Also, how are Squirt & C.B. doing? Let me know if there is anything I can do.

It is extremely interesting to hear about the changes at Disneyland. Who would have thought that after all these years, that they would close the Matterhorn to make it safer. Also, I can hardly wait to ride on the "Tower of Terror", we will have to have a mom & son day at DCA. Speaking of roller coasters, I hear that Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is out. That will be a must have after I return (though don't worry...I am not counting down the days until I can play it). Since you mentioned the Hunt for Red October, why not get it on DVD.

To answer your question, my bike is primarily sitting in my apartment. We are thinking about using them some more though.

Now for the general information. We have transfers on December 13th. It is not likely that I will be leaving, considering my companion has been here since May (4 transfers which last 6 weeks each). It is possible that I might become a senior companion at that time, which means I would have to buy a telephone and answering machine. Since that would be my only technology that I am really allowed to have, I just want to inform you that I will buy are really nice one when that day comes. However, that may or may not be December 13th. Just wanted to prepare you for that event, though it is only a possibility.

Also, did you try to get General Conference on DVD like I requested?

This week, I got to use my Spanish a little. We went to a home that we had on an old media referral that had received the Lamb of God video tape (which is pretty good by the way) and said they were interested, but spoke Spanish. They were pretty friendly, but I assume the other Elders were mistaken, she was Catholic and not interested. We have one city in our area that is predominately Spanish, and Elder Karlinsey wants to start working there some more (maybe for me to do more of the work). We already have 18 Spanish Book of Mormons and we ordered a copy of the discussions in Spanish for me. So, perhaps I may get to use the language a little.

Anyways, I love you all and wish you the best!

Love,
Elder Michael Robinson

P.S. Thanks for the picture of my favorite things.
