Excerpts from Mike's Letter Home:

09/16/2002

Dear Parents,

I hope that you are all doing well and that Stake Conference and choir was not to taxing on dad. He would be pleased to know that priesthood meeting here starts at 6:30 p.m. Not quite the 7:30 a.m. back home. However we do not go to Stake priesthood meeting.

Not too much has happened this week, but we did do a lot of service. Mom should be please to know that I am now skilled with using a lawn mover and weed whacker. Though, I am not as allergic to grass as dad is, I have found a new appreciation for the cement in the back yard.

Well, I will tell you that last week I met an interesting person. He was a convert to the church, but before he joined the church his parents threatened to take away his kids if he joined. He converted and was a member for almost a year, getting ready to go to the temple for his endowment and to be sealed to his wife and children. At this point, his parents told the cops the was into kiddie porn, just because they hate the church so much. So, the cops came and searched the home and found no evidence. However, since his wife has not been with him too long, she left him because of the accusation. However, social services is being extremely slow in returning his kids. He was sick, so he called us over for a blessing. It's people like this that really make me appreciate my family and what I have. This man is amazingly strong and faithful, a real inspiration.

Also, having seem some of the people we have taught.., I have come to the conclusion of just how important a college education is. I thought it was important.. but now I couldn't imagine life without it. However, I have always had the desire to finish college.

Sorry there isn't too much inspiration in this letter. Tell grandma "Hi" and thanks for the card. I miss you all!

Love,
Elder Michael Robinson

P.S. Since I try to save money all the time... my companion thinks my favorite scripture is Isaiah 55: 1-2. I think it should be a favorite with dad as well.
