Excerpts from Mike's Letter Home:

08/19/2002 - Addendum

Dear Parents,

I just got your letter dated 8/15/02. Life is fine in Bartlesville, but a lot of our town is moving to Texas. This is because Phillips 66 and Conoco gas are planning to merge. Bartlesville is the Phillips corporate headquarters.

Yes, I am living in an apartment. I kind of like our little apartment, it's not bad. P-day is Monday until 6:00 p.m. This Monday we woke up at 5:15 a.m. to be driven to a member's house to do our laundry before he (Brother Eastman) went to seminary.

Our daily schedule usually consists of waking up at 6:30 a.m., shower, dress, etc., 7:00 a.m. companionship and personal study, 8:00 a.m. breakfast, 8:30 a.m. quality study and discussion memorization until 10:00 a.m. Then we tract and have appointments until noon. Lunch until 1:00 p.m. and then more tracting and appointments until 9:30 p.m. We squeeze a dinner appointment into the evening. We plan for the next day until we go to bed at 10:30 p.m. It's really a busy schedule filled. And we have a goal to do at least 5 hours of tracting on Saturday.

Our most interesting contact right now is a black man named Morris. He is a converted Muslim, but mainly joined them because they are accepting of other religions and because they do not bicker amongst the different sects as Christians often do. He's a great guy, but very busy because he has 5 kids and they are all involved in things that he helps out with. We are pretty excited to be teaching him, but we suspect he will do a lot of soul searching and study before committing to anything.

In regards to baptisms, it looks like we have 2 people that are likely to do it sometime soon. One is the 9 year old son of an inactive part member family (Ricky) who feels the need to be baptized. The other prospect is a disabled lady (Etta) who just called us up and said she wanted to be baptized. She has a few relatives who are members, but she wanted to discuss it with her non-member son first. So, we don't quite know what is going on there. I will be sure to let you know when anything happens.

Thank you so much for the updates from home. I truly appreciate them.

Oh yeah, the hallway flying picture from the MTC was one of those fun pictures we took. Another guy took the same picture and showed it to one of our teachers and she actually believed it! Really, there was a bolted-in ironing board beneath my jacket. It was too fun a picture to pass up! Hope you enjoyed it.

So you know, our mission president forbids e-mail (with exceptions for international missionaries.) Though, I did get to do an hour of service fixing an Oklahoma Historical Society computer. I doubt that I will get many chances like that again. And yes, I did enjoy it greatly!

Now before I close, let me tell you that we use the acronym OTM for Oklahoma Tulsa Mission (or as some say 'Only True Mission'). I believe that Parley P. Pratt is buried within our mission boundaries. So, ours is one of the few missions with a dead apostle.

Anyways, I love you all sooooo much! Take care.

Love,
Elder Michael Robinson
