Self-employed contractors are individuals who provide services for payment but are not considered workers because they work for themselves and do not have an employer. For example, independent contractors are those who practice or trade in areas such as plumbing, carpentry or graphic design, or in more specialized technical environments such as accounting, engineering or computer programming. When a contractor agrees to provide a service in exchange for compensation, a service contract sets out the terms of the agreement. Service contracts can also be used by a manufacturer to define the terms of an extended warranty, explain the coverage or cost of services provided to a product if it is incorrect for a given period of time. While oral agreements may be enforceable, it is preferable to have written service agreements. By establishing a contract, you have the opportunity to explain the expectations on both sides of the agreement. Contracts define the extent of the work, the cost of the contract, when payments are to be made and how disputes are to be handled. If you do not have the agreement in writing, disagreements or misunderstandings may arise. In general, legal actions and arbitration proceedings will result in either a financial payment to the other or no party will be obliged to go any further. From time to time, the judge or arbitrator may ask the party who will provide the service to continue working. A product service contract, also known as an extended warranty, is a type of service contract that resembles a basic or restricted warranty, only this coverage involves additional costs, but not a basic guarantee. Some of these service contracts are sold separately from the product and offer free protection for the item for a longer period than the basic warranty or for more services than the basic warranty, while others are included in the cost of a product and indicate the repair costs when the item needs to be repaired. When repair costs are set, they are often more advantageous than the fees charged by a repairer who works outside a service contract.
It is important to keep in mind that the most important aspect of any service contract is the description of the services provided. If you write this part of the contract, you should be as specific as possible to ensure that there is no room for misunderstandings between you and the customer. If your company still offers the same services to each customer, you should spend a lot of time defining the services provided in your boiler platform. Otherwise, take the time each time you create a contract to ensure that the specific objectives and expectations of the customer are detailed in the contract.
